Tucked away not far from the road in the northern Catskill Mountains, travel along Route 23A and look out for Bastion Falls.
Once you spot Bastion Falls, you'll quickly notice the Kaaterskill Falls trailhead on the roadside - where you'll find signage indicating the short half-mile hike ahead of you.
While the hike itself is short, it's one that takes you over rocky terrain and requires sturdy shoes and mindfulness of the trail you're hiking along.
A trail that runs parallel with Spruce Creek, as you hike to New York's most epic two-tiered waterfall you'll be amazed by all the smaller waterfalls and breathtaking scenery that you'll pass along the way.
Before you know it, you'll be standing at the base of not only the most epic two-tiered waterfall in New York but also the tallest waterfall in our state.
Cascading down 260-feet, Kaaterskill Falls will remind you of just how small you are as you stand at the base of this natural wonder that towers above you.
If you're curious to get a closer look at all the tiers of Kaaterskill Falls, you can follow the stone staircase that winds up along the right side of the waterfall.
As you make your way up the stone staircase you'll pass by the middle of the waterfall, and eventually find yourself all the way at the very top.

Kaaterskill Falls has its own viewing platform and overlook that's easily accessible via a quick, flat-terrain walk from the parking lot on Laurel House Road.
Giving you the chance to enjoy a bird's eye view of the waterfall from the top and a never-ending view of Kaaterskill Clove, no matter how you come to view this waterfall you're bound to have a memorable adventure.
If you've never taken the hike out to the base of Kaaterskill Falls, consider planning an adventure this year!
Before we send any of our readers out to Kaaterskill Falls, we'd like to make a note that over the course of history this natural wonder is one that's resulted in death. If you look at the signage all throughout Kaaterskill Falls, you'll notice that you're urged to stay on the trails at all times and to not wander close to the edge of the top of the falls - an action that could result in a deadly outcome.
With that said, don't let that information scare you from visiting our state's tallest waterfall! Kaaterskill Falls is an amazing hike to take, but as always with any outdoor adventure, you'll want to be safe and pay attention to what you're doing. To find out more about the falls,
