The 2,880-acre Hinckley Reservoir is located in Herkimer County and is managed by the New York State Department of Conservation. This reservoir is in the southwest corner of Adirondack Park near the town of Cold Brook and is only a half an hour from Utica. The Hinckley Reservoir Day Use Area is very popular with locals and has been for many years. However, a change is coming! People from all over central and upstate New York come to spend time at the Hinckley Reservoir and to enjoy its day use area in particular.
This wooded, waterfront area is quiet and serene and is a great place for families, friends, couples, or individuals to kick back and relax for a few hours.

More bathrooms and a comfort station will be added. The existing hiking and biking trails will be expanded and more roads will be added as well. The new development will also include a new picnic shelter, a pavilion, and a beach volleyball court.
Soon, this place will be able to host and accommodate even more people than ever before. Guests will be able to come for several days instead of just for a few hours. Many great memories will be made at Hinckley Reservoir in the future!
It’s official! As of Spring 2022, the development of this campground has been approved and is moving forward. There is no estimated date of completion available yet. In the meantime, you can visit Hinckley Reservoir and spend time in the day use area. When you do, you’ll be able to get a good idea about what to expect when the campground is eventually complete.
