After what felt like a long winter, things are officially beginning to liven back up down along New York's oceanfront.
While we wouldn't blame you for wanting to instinctively run to the beach to dig your toes into the sand, don't be surprised when we tell you that you need to go explore the island's massive boardwalk and hidden forest.
As you begin this incredible seaside adventure, you'll find the explorer easily coming out of you as you start to make your way through the island's Maritime Holly Forest.
Tucked between unique secondary dunes, over the courses of hundreds of years this area of the island's landscapes were formed and have left something truly to be longed for.
One of the things you might happen to notice while you're stopping along the boardwalk is the fact that this area of the island is home to so many different kinds of head-turning wildlife.
In fact, more than 19 marine mammal species have been recorded within the boundary of Fire Island National Seashore - with animals like seals known to frequent here in the springtime.
If you've yet to explore a boardwalk like this, then try to plan a trip out to New York's Sunken Forest before all of the summer tourist crowds flock to the island!
With the local ferry service officially up and operating, now's the perfect time to go and see the magical boardwalk and nature trail of Sunken Island for yourself.
