All along the shores of Lake Ontario, you can find an array of hidden gems like lakeside restaurants and lighthouse boat tours that will leave you in awe. If you’re willing to look just beyond the lakefront though, only a half-hour from the shores you can find an incredible waterfall hike that’s worth venturing out to. Ready to check another natural wonder off of your bucket list? Then take a look at Salmon River Falls.
Only a half-hour away from the shores of Lake Ontario, the small town of Orwell is where you'll need to head to discover Salmon River Falls.
Park in the sizeable lot just off of the road and before you know it you'll be exploring the trail systems of this more than 100-acre unique area of the Empire State.
Throughout the year, certain trails within the unique area are closed, but you'll always be able to find a breathtaking hike waiting for you, no matter which trail you travel along.
Surrounded by the cliffs of a 3,000-foot-tall gorge, you'll be amazed to find such a jaw-dropping waterfall tucked away within these woods of Oswego County.
If you're able to hike out along the open trails, you'll be able to choose whether you want to explore the upper area of the falls or follow the Gorge Trail that takes you down to the base of the falls for a bit more of an intense hike.
Open to the public for free from sunrise to sunset, Salmon River Falls is yet another destination that has New Yorkers continuously chasing waterfalls.
