For those of our residents and out-of-town visitors who are looking to explore unique and little-known sides of the Empire State, then have no fear because there’s always an abundance of places like this to visit! In the past, our readers may recall how we’ve highlighted special destinations like Letchworth State Park – a place that’s considered to be New York’s Grand Canyon of the East. Well, if you’ve already to managed to cross that adventure off of your bucket list, then it’s time you tack on another outdoor excursion to your list of things-to-do. Check it out!
Taking you down to one of the most unique trails within Greene County, Pratt Rock is an adventure unlike any other in New York - or the rest of the country for that matter.
Those who are traveling along New York's Route 23 will eventually stumble upon a roadside trailhead, a destination that's usually quite easy to spot once you know where you're going.
If you're unfamiliar with this hike, it's one that's relatively short but also a bit steep - making it a popular outdoor adventure among New York families and residents of all different ages and skill levels.
While you'll be able to find sweeping views of the Schoharie Creek and valley from the top of this hike, it's the area's history that's been carved into the mountainside that will truly draw you in here.
The larger-than-life carvings in the mountainside came to be at the request of Zadock Pratt, a local man who ran the largest shoe leather tannery in the world at the time during the mid-1800s.
So, if you're ready to take on an outdoor adventure that's unlike any other, then don't miss out on hiking up to Pratt Rock in New York's Greene County.
