Rock gardens are becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason. They are more environmentally friendly than traditional green gardens. It requires less water to maintain than a rock garden than a more common plant-filled garden. Rock gardens incorporate the existing landscapes into their designs to show off the natural beauty of a location that you may have not noticed before!
One beautiful rock garden that's great for visitors of all ages is located in the New York Botanical Garden. It's right in the middle of the Bronx, but the peaceful surroundings will have you feeling miles away from the chaos of New York City.
The Rock Garden was constructed in the 1930s and is over 2.5 sprawling acres. The mature trees provide plenty of shade for the colorful forest plants that grow underneath. It's so cool in the garden, and makes for a relaxing spot on a warm day!
The contrast of bright colorful flowers against gray and brown rocks makes for a beautiful scene. The textural differences between the plants and rocks are very pleasing to the eye.
This rock garden is ideal for a peaceful walk. The sound of the water flowing over the rocks is a perfect soundtrack for anyone looking for quiet repose.
Just to the west of the rock garden is Thain Forest, a 50-acre undeveloped woodland. The botanical gardens and Thain Forest are a colorful gem of nature within the Big Apple.
