Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). Like many of you, we here at Only In New York are animal lovers. Furry, scaly, feathered, flippered: we love them all. We adore cat cafes and farm animal rescues. But sometimes, you get the urge to interact with an animal that’s a little more uncommon. If you’re looking for fun and exotic animal encounters in New York, it doesn’t get much more adorable than playing with the seals at the Aquarium of Niagara. This underrated aquarium doesn’t get as much love as some of the larger zoos and aquariums in New York, but it’s a great place to encounter fish and marine mammals. For an extra-special experience, you can purchase a special pass to interact with the animals! We recommend the seal pass because they’re just so darn cute.
The Aquarium of Niagara opened in 1965. This accredited aquarium in New York features several rescued animals who cannot be released into the wild due to health reasons.
The marine mammal shows are always popular! Each day, there are several California sea lion shows and seal presentations where you can learn more about these fascinating creatures.
For true seal lovers, you can get an add-on Seal Encounter package. You'll get to meet a seal, as well as talk to the trainers first-hand to learn more about the animals' care.
