It doesn’t take too long of living in New York to realize there’s something special about being able to have the privilege of calling this place home. A breed of our own, see why there’s no one else besides us who could possibly answer this unique set of questions below. Keep scrolling to see if you have all of the answers!
1. Where can you find America's oldest natural attraction?
That would be up north in Ausable Chasm, of course! Way up north where you're away from it all, Ausable Chasm opened up to the public back in 1870 and has since been known as the oldest natural attraction in the United States.
2. Are the Adirondack Mountains really that stunning?
Yes, the answer is always yes. Compare to some of the other massive mountains that you'll find here in the United States, ours up may not be at the highest of elevations, but that doesn't mean the Adirondack Park won't completely leave you in awe. No matter what season you decide to visit the Adirondacks in, it's always absolutely breathtaking here.
3. So, where exactly did Woodstock happen?
Our apologies, we see how this one could be confusing. While we of course love to visit the scenic and absolutely funky town of Woodstock, our state's famous music festival that happened many moons ago didn't actually take place in Woodstock. If you're looking to visit the site of the festival and the museum dedicated to this epic event, you'll want to head down to Bethel!
4. Which football teams actually belong to New York? Who should I be rooting for?
Don't let the tall tales bother you, New York has a total of three football teams - the Bills, Giants, and Jets. Some of our football teams may practice out of state, but that doesn't make them any less of a New York team.
5. We heard New York has hosted the Olympics before, is that true?
Yep, we've actually hosted them twice! The historic and absolutely breathtaking town of Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in both 1932 and 1980. All throughout town you can find pieces of our Olympic past, this is definitely an area of New York's history that you'll be fascinated to explore.
6. How long does winter actually last up there?
This is a question that we sadly only have a brutal answer to. Taking all of our regions into consideration, from the Adirondacks out to Buffalo, you can expect to deal with frigid temperatures and snowfall between the months of October and March. We're in for the long haul!
7. Upstate New York is... where exactly?
Again, this is another question that can be slightly tricky to unravel. Generally speaking, if you ask most New Yorkers we'll tell you that anywhere north of Albany is considered to be Upstate territory. We'll start you off with that much.
8. We heard you eat Garbage Plates, what's that all about?
Every state has their own array of iconic food dishes and one of New York's just so happens to be something called the Garbage Plate. Coming out of the city of Rochester, these Garbage Plates are packed full of everything from various meats and pasta to potatoes and all sorts of toppings. We assure you though, this dish is far from garbage.
9. There aren't actually waterfalls with flames inside of them that exist, right?
As magically impossible as this one sounds, it's true! Just outside of the city of Buffalo, you can find Eternal Flame Falls - a waterfall that has an actual flame going inside of it. Possible through the forces of natural gas leaking through the cracks in the ground, this waterfall is unlike any other you'll ever see in New York.
10. Does the water in New York really have natural healing properties?
You've most likely heard about how great the drinking water in New York is, but not everyone realizes that in the small city of Saratoga Springs, you can find handfuls of mineral springs that produce drinking water that can heal you! With each spring having its own properties and serving a different purpose, you'll even find New Yorkers bathing in these special waters to make themselves feel better.
