Seamon Park is one of the prettiest city parks in New York. This little gem in Saugerties is meticulously landscaped throughout the year. The hilly park boasts statues, gardens, and walking paths. But it’s in October that this place really shines. The annual Saugerties Mum Festival has been held here for decades in the fall.
Seamon Park has hundreds of mums all over the park. They're at their peak bloom by mid-October, when the Saugerties Mum Festival is typically scheduled.
Chrysanthemums are a bit of an underrated flower. With a mid-autumn bloom schedule, they have a tendency to fall by the wayside with all the focus on pumpkin patches and cider mills.
These showy flowers come in a variety of colors. Interestingly, they are a natural form of insecticide! They can also be used to make teas.

The mum festival attracts thousands of visitors to Saugerties. The art show is especially popular, with various categories for different art mediums like watercolor and pencil.
The 2019 festival even had a reptile show from local snake breeder Dan Liebel. Announcements have not been made yet for what the 2021 festival will have in store, but we are sure it'll be a blast!
The festival features a variety of local vendors, including artisans, makers, and more.
The 2021 festival is scheduled for Oct. 10 from 12 to 5 p.m. An exact schedule of events has not been announced yet. Keep an eye on the Saugerties Mum Festival Facebook page for updates. You can get more information about Seamon Park from their website.
