Peter Luger is situated in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, with additional outposts in Great Neck, New York, Tokyo, Japan and Las Vegas. It’s the third oldest steakhouse in New York City that continues to be in operation.
The Brooklyn location, which we will be focusing on here, was created in 1887 under the name Carl Luger's Café, Billiards and Bowling Alley. In 1950, Peter Luger’s son Frederick auctioned off the restaurant to new owners, Solo Forman and Seymour Sloyer, who have kept it in the family since.
The menu at Peter Luger is focused on steakhouse classics, in particular their porterhouse steak, which is sized for two or four diners. It comes to the table sizzling.
To eat at Peter Luger, visitors must secure a reservation. But, trust us, it's well worth the effort. The restaurant is truly old school: no credit cards allowed!
Peter Luger is part of the prestigious James Beard Award's list of "America's Classic" restaurants, and for a good reason. In it's combination of amazing food and a historic atmosphere, it is truly an unforgettable experience.
For a timeless meal with flavors that never go out of style, it’s worth making a reservation to go and eat at Peter Luger in Brooklyn, the best steakhouse in New York City. While in Brooklyn, why not also check out Brooklyn Flea, which we think is the best flea market in New York City.
