It’s a very hot summer everywhere this year and that means we’re looking for great places to go swimming. While there are many natural swimming holes across New York, many require a drive and a hike to reach, and by then you’ll be even hotter! Fortunately, there’s one really fantastic man-made swimming hole right in the city of Albany. The Lincoln Park Pool has been a refreshing option for people of all ages since way back in 1931, and people still love it today. Read on to learn more.
If you're looking for a great place to get wet and cool this summer, the Lincoln Park Pool in Lincoln Park in Albany awaits.
This pool opened in 1931, which means it's rapidly approaching its 100th anniversary. It's unique in that it has gently sloping edges that create a shallow "end" all around, and a deep "end" in the middle.
Unfortunately, this pool has to close often for repairs. The pool has been leaking since almost the time it first opened almost a century ago. Today, it loses 300,000 to 500,000 gallons of water each day.
In 2018, the city decided that the pool needs to be replaced, but that has not happened yet. Chances are that when Albany replaces the pool, it will be replaced with a more traditional pool instead.
That's exactly why you should go check out this unique and historic pool before that happens. It's a great place to cool down on a hot day. You'll be following in the footsteps of generations of Albany residents when you do.
The Lincoln Park Pool in Albany gives Albany residents much relief on the hottest days of the summer, just like it has for many decades. This man-made swimming hole is a piece of functional history, and it’s a great place for you and your companions to cool off this June, July, and August. Have fun!
