When it comes to camping in New York, you probably won’t find a state that has as many different options when it comes to settings to choose from as ours does. From sleeping out near the ocean on Long Island or truly roughing it up in the Adirondack Mountains where our campgrounds embody the definition of seclusion, there’s really so many places to choose from.
If you’re looking for a campground that’s a bit different from all the rest and will still provide you with one of the best getaways you’ve ever experienced, then it’s time to try something new and head to Niagara County!
Part of the small town of Barker in Niagara County, Golden Hill State Park is a magical place to go camping during the year.
Small but sweet, the over 500-acre park's main attraction is Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse - earning its name because it's only 30-miles away from the Niagara River.
Dating back to 1875 before the park was even acquired by the state, there's actually something many people don't realize about Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse...
...And it's the fact that you can spend the night here inside the lighthouse! A cottage is available to reserve, giving you an elevated view of the water and scenery that no one else in the park will have.
The magical experience continues as you discover that the playground here in the park, not far from the campsites, has been designed to resemble the Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse.
If you're interested in making use of your tent, then reserve one of the 55 campsites that are available for reservation here at Golden Hill State Park.
Nearly every one of the campsites has electricity and an up-close view of the lake, Mother Nature's white noise that will soundly put you to sleep each night that you're camping here.
If you don't have your own tent, you can also see if one of the park's six yurts is available to reserve! How dreamy does this adventure by the water look?
From an amazing campground and historic lighthouse to beautiful picnic areas and nature trails, there are lots of reasons why Golden Hill State Park makes for the ultimate, fairytale setting for camping in New York.
