The building that houses the Kingston, New York restaurant Hoffman House was built all the way back in 1679. Though it has recently changed owners, its current incarnation as a restaurant dates back to 1977. This is all to say that there is a lot of history in this building, both ancient and a bit more modern. To this day, it is a community staple and a go-to for both residents and visitors. It’s one of the best choices for historic dining in Kingston, New York.
Hoffman House was started by Pat and Ginny Bradley in 1977. The restaurant was taken over by Francisco and Eva Diaz in 2020. It is situated in Kingston’s Stockdale neighborhood, and at one point long ago served as a lookout. There are still musket holes on the top floors!
Since the beginning of Hoffman House, the restaurant has been dishing out amazing comfort food made with a focus on local ingredients, all served in a unique—and historic—environment.
The current owners have kept the spirit of the restaurant alive, and point to their French onion soup, sliced London broil and half roast duckling as some of their standout dishes.
The menu at Hoffman House features a mix of seafood, steaks and and homemade pasta. For those wanting to eat outside this summer, there is a covered patio. But the historic interior is a major draw here.
