Farm Sanctuary is an incredible place! If you love animals, then you’re going to absolutely adore everything about it. This Watkins Glen animal sanctuary is home to more than 800 rescued farm animals on nearly 300 acres. Each and every one of them will live on this property happily ever after, with no fear of further mistreatment nor of ever being eaten.
The people who work and volunteer here care for each animal as an individual and these happy critters are treated like kings and queens. You can take an hour-long, guided tour of the property at several different times of day most days of the week, and you should. You’ll be amazed by the good work happening here. Read on to learn more.
Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 and at the time, it was the first and only animal shelter for farmed animals. Today, this is one of two properties owned and managed by this non-profit organization; the other, smaller farm is in Acton, California.
One of the other first things you'll notice is how much space these animals have to relax and graze and to enjoy life. The rolling, green hills in this area are vast and beautiful.
Your tour will begin at the Visitor Barn. You'll meet your guide here and he or she will tell you a bit about Farm Sanctuary's mission before you head out to meet some of the animals. You'll learn a great deal here about animal welfare, sustainability, and the benefits of a vegan diet. All information is presented in a positive way with much hope for the future.
Farm Sanctuary is spectacular and everyone should visit at some point in their lives to see its beauty and to meet these amazing and friendly animals. You’ll love this place and your time there will stay with you for years to come.
