One of our favorite parts about enjoying the fall season here in New York is seeing all of the different decorations that pop up around our state. Some attractions and enthusiastic neighbors will create things out of hay bales, while others will set up lifelike characters right in their front yards. If you happen to head out to the historic Old Westbury Gardens during the month of October though, you’ll discover all kinds of magic that can be created with the simplicity of a pumpkin. Check it out!
Ready or not, starting on October 11th the Old Westbury Garden will be the host of the Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns 8th annual event.
What many may know as a historic garden, transforms into a complete pumpkin wonderland - putting 5,000 hand-carved illuminated jack o'lanterns on display for all to see.
Previous years, only a few trees at the gardens have been lit up, but the Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns event has revealed this year there will be an entire Light The Night area, made up of an entire lighted pathway.
Those who have the pleasure of attending this popular family-friendly event will get the chance to check out several new and familiar features this year.
Continue to explore along the 1/4-mile long garden path, and you'll pass by new immersive experiences that feature things like multi-level pumpkin structures...
...3-D pumpkins preserved in special container that will completely spook you this Halloween season, and even 100-pound pumpkins on display that have intricately carved designs.
To those of us New Yorkers who have previously attended the Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns event, familiar displays like the Gourds with the Gift of Gab will have jack o'lantern characters singing your favorite Halloween tunes will once again be set up.
