No matter what the season, it’s fun to hike in New York State. For hikers with a certain level of aptitude, one of the more fun trails in the state has got to be Bull Hill Full Loop in the Hudson Valley, in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve. It’s close to New York City and provides both a challenging and very scenic hike. It might just be one of the best hiking trails in New York. To learn more, keep reading, below.
Bull Hill Full Loop is a 5.4 mile trail that is located inside of the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve, which is very close to the New York town of Cold Spring.
Many hikers who have taken this scenic route have commented that it can be quite challenging, but it’s worth the difficulty. The trail is very steep, but for the most part it doesn’t reach the level where it turns into a rock-scrambling kind of situation. It takes around three hours to complete.
Though it is widely considered that the best time to take on this trail is between April and November, it can still be enjoyed in the winter. At different parts of the trail, hikers can enjoy views of the New York City skyline, the Catskills and Breakneck Ridge.
Hikers can enjoy what is left of The West Lawn, a formerly majestic house that is slowly been stripped down to ruins. The original house was done in the Prairie style of architecture, which was made famous by Frank Lloyd Wright.
For both a great workout and a great view, it’s an easy choice: try hiking Bull Hill Full Loop near Cold Spring, New York. We think it’s one of the best hiking trails in New York. While in the area, why not grab some Texas-style BBQ from Round Up Texas BBQ, a hidden gem of a restaurant nearby on Route 9 in Cold Spring. And for those looking for a place to stay near the trail, we recommend the aptly-named Cold Spring Hotel.
