Down in the Hudson Valley, you’ll find trains running along the tracks that follow the banks of the Hudson River — majestically making their way up and down the state of New York. If you don’t have the time to go for an actual train ride though but love soaking in the sights of this timeless way of travel, we’ve found the best place for you to grab dinner. A delightful piece of history that you can step right into, see what it’s like to dine in this old small-town train station.
Ready to enjoy some American comfort food right along the rails? It's time to check out Cold Spring Depot.
In the historic town of Cold Spring, Cold Spring Depot has been feeding hungry locals and out-of-towners since 1972, but long before that this restaurant was so much more.
On Cold Spring Depot's menu, you'll find a variety of filling dishes, with hearty sandwiches and pot pies to steaks and incredible starters like their Rhode Island Style Calamari or Giant Soft Pretzels that are larger than your head.
Of course, Cold Spring Depot also knows how to top off the perfect meal with a great-tasting dessert. There's always something delicious waiting for you on the menu.
The restaurant, as we said, may no longer be an operating train depot, but it does still sit right along the tracks of the Metro-North rails that are still operating.
When it's warm enough outside, you'll find people dining out on the patio where you can get a front row seat to watching the Metro-North trains ride by.
Before you go, there are other pieces of this depot's history that you might be intrigued to learn about! Inside this historic station, you'll find a plaque commemorating the trip George Washington once took to the area, but that's not all. According to local legend, back in 1898, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband in the train station as she was waiting to board a train to Poughkeepsie. Now on Wednesday nights, many claim to feel a cold draft blow through the dining room in the area where she was killed. Eek!
