Out-of-towners may think of our state as a chaotic and fast-paced place to live, but real New Yorkers know that the Empire State is full of peaceful, relaxing getaways to take. For our go-to day trips, residents frequently like to head to the mountains or pay a visit to one of our soothing waterfalls. We’ve recently uncovered a unique place though that we think you’ll love, opening its doors to visitors who are interested in finding peace of mind at a hidden monastery in New York.
Existing right here in the small town of Pine Bush, Blue Cliff Monastery is a peaceful safe haven that you never knew about.
Out of the 80 acres that make up Blue Cliff, more than 60 of them are covered by a serene forest that you can explore during nature walks through their trails and gardens.
Visitors can come to Blue Cliff Monastery for free to experience a Day of Mindfulness, where you'll start the morning with a Dharma Talk and Walking Meditation.
After a Mindful Lunch with the Buddhists and fellow visitors of Blue Cliff, you'll get to enjoy other things like Dharma-sharing and Mindfulness Training Ceremonies.
Usually offering their Day of Mindfulness on Sundays and Thursdays, you can see Blue Cliff Monastery's full list of events and opening visitor days if you click here.
While Blue Cliff Monastery opens its doors for free, it is suggested that you contribute a $10 to 20 dollar donation if you're able to — to help keep this place up and running for more people to experience. Blue Cliff Monastery is also open for more than just their public Days of Mindfulness, you can also schedule personal retreats for yourself or partake in themed retreats that they host.
From enjoying their bookshop to hearing the Monastery teachers talk, it's incredible that we have such a peaceful place to visit right here in our state. To find out more information about Blue Cliff Monastery, click here.
