Historic Congress Park in Saratoga Springs is located in the center of town. Just off of Broadway, Circular Street and Spring Street, this lovely park offers mineral spring fountains, statues, and manicured grounds.
Congress Park is the perfect place to picnic with friends, stroll with your family, or just relax and take in the peaceful atmosphere. But there is more to this park than meets the eye...
That's right, this isn't just any park, it is a haunted park in New York. Pictured here is the "Devil's Chair," which is rumored to transport you to another era if you sit there long enough.
The background of Devil's Chair is that this large stone was supposed to serve as a cornerstone for an Episcopal Church that was to be built. The project was scrapped in favor of the construction of a casino. The congregation believed gambling was the work of the devil, and so the left-behind stone from the abandoned project became known as the "Devil's Chair."
Speaking of the casino, it was eventually built and became known as the Canfield Casino. Rumor has it that the casino itself is also haunted. The earliest noted paranormal activity is from the 1900s, when visitors saw a woman dressed in Victorian-era clothing wandering through the corridors. A similar sighting also occurred as recently as 2007.
But those aren't the only creepy sightings at the casino. In 2009, a visitor had her hand slapped by a ghostly presence. And an employee once saw a garbage can lid fly and crash on its own. There have also been reports of cigar smoke and suddenly freezing temperatures. Creepy!
So what do you think about this haunted park in New York? Check out Congress Park today and see if you experience any strange happenings!
