A couple of weeks ago you might remember how I spoke about a humble little bakery in the Finger Lakes that makes the world’s best grape pies – Monica’s Pies. If you’ve been craving an authentic New York grape pie ever since you read about Monica’s, then sit back and relax while you wait for your new favorite excuse to plan a day trip to the town of Naples.
Known for being the Grape Capital of the East Coast, each year Naples celebrates its roots and hosts its very own Grape Festival that our residents can’t get enough of. Coming up at the end of this month, find out what you can expect to experience at this small town festival.
Taking place since 1961, the long-running Naples Grape Festival is coming at the end of September.
Always hosted in the month of September, on the grounds of Naples High School and across the street at the Memorial Town Hall you'll find vendors lining the streets in never-ending rows.
Each year Naples works hard to make sure there are a variety of well-crafted local vendors that have something amazing to bring to the Grape Festival - with artisans and crafters from town and the surrounding areas showcasing their works of art for interested onlookers.
With the festival kicking off each year to celebrate the region's harvest of grapes, longtime residents of New York continue to pass down the tradition as they enjoy home-grown grapes and regionally-made wines at the Naples Grape Festival.
One of the most exciting parts of the festival is the World's Greatest Grape Pie Contest, where you can witness how locals have turned our great-tasting grapes into a magnificent dessert.
Each year a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize awards are given out, with many people hoping to win over the judges with unique crusts that pay homage to the Finger Lakes and Naples!
Happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 29th and 30th, plan a day trip and see why this region of our state has become so well-known for grapes and phenomenal pies.
One of the fun things about this festival is that over the years it's sort of begun to take on a life of its own. While the technical festival takes place on the grounds of the Naples High School and the land right across the street, you'll also find that other local vendors and street-goers begin to unofficially extend the festival further into town as people take over the streets.
