2. Fillmore Glen State Park, Moravia
This state park which covers over 900 acres of land looks like something out of a fairytale. Once you lay your eyes on what's before you, you'll have a hard time stopping yourself from exploring all day long. The park features the beautiful Cowshed waterfalls that will take your breath away.
3. Natural Stone Bridge & Caves, Pottersville
Generally speaking, New York's Howe Caverns tends to steal all the spotlight when it comes to our states underground explorations, but have you heard of this incredible spot? One of the largest marble cave entrances you'll ever lay your eyes on, this underground adventure is a great spot for residents of all ages. This adventurous sweet spot features underground adventures, mining activities and even ice cream! Yum!
4. Hurricane Mountain, Keene
Roughly two years ago the trail for this mountain was redone, making it less steep and more safe for New York's explorers. Roundtrip the trail is about 7 miles long and offers a great day of exploring outside and will give you unforgettable views of the High Peaks.
5. Chimney Bluffs State Park, Wolcott
You probably wouldn't think to find a place like this in New York, let alone out along a lake. Giving you views of Lake Ontario, exploring Chimney Bluffs is a one of a kind experience. With beautiful beaches, hiking trails right along the water, and fascinating bluffs to climb, this state park will give your legs a run for their money!
6. Indian Head, Keene Valley
One of the most unique views New York's mountains have to offer, anyone who's hiked this trail knows the view immediately. This hike can be strenuous at times and is roughly a 10-mile loop due to the long gravel road you'll initially follow, but we promise it is worth every bit of effort you put in.
7. Old Westbury Gardens, Westbury
One of New York's true gems, this historic site is open on the weekends for you to explore. This spot is for those looking to explore beautiful green grounds without having to put any major strain on yourself. While there's plenty to explore inside the Westbury house, the real exploration happens outside. With beautiful gardens that will make you second guess if you're actually dreaming, here you can enjoy a day of exploring leisurely.
8. Sam's Point Preserve, Ulster County
On the highest point of the Shawangunk Ridge, this 5,000 acre preserve has tons to explore. Featuring sky lakes, ice caves, open fields, waterfalls, and adventurous trails, this area will practically rip the explorer out of you.
9. High Falls Gorge, Wilmington
A privately owned nature park, High Falls Gorge covers over 20 acres of land. These adventurous trails showcase four stunning waterfalls in the Adirondacks, and generally only takes less than an hour to explore!
10. Panama Rocks Scenic Park, Panama
Opening back up for the season in May, Panama Rocks has been privately up and running since 1885! The towering rocks surrounded by forest will make you feel like you've entered another world, a truly epic place to explore in our state.
11. John Boyd Thacher State Park, Voorheesville
A quick drive outside of our capital will bring you to this amazing state park. If you haven't already explored the Indian Ladder Trail then you're missing out. Bringing you under waterfalls and to panoramic views, this historic trail is an absolute must!
