New York may not have any old spooky and abandoned ghost towns like you’ll find out in the West, where nothing but tumbleweed rolls through these destinations. If there’s something that our state does have plenty of though? It’s haunted hotels. By now you’ve most likely heard about places like the Shanley Hotel, a spot that’s so haunted you literally need to sign a waiver in order to spend the night. But if you’re looking for a hotel that has the perfect combination of hair-raising history and excitement, then it’s time you plan a trip out to Wayne County.
Less than a half-hour north of Cayuga Lake in the small town of Clyde, you can find quite an unusual Bed & Breakfast.
Equipped with four unforgettable suites, the B&B continues to be loaded with vintage charm and extraordinary decor that will have you itching with nostalgia.
After passing through the hands of many owners and sitting abandoned for two years, the current owner and innkeeper purchased the historical home in an attempt to preserve local history.
After purchasing the Erie Mansion back in 2008 to use as a private residence, the current owner began restoring the historic building. While undergoing renovations, locals came to visit the mansion to share their own stories of experiencing unusual behavior here. As stories were shared and hairs were raising, workers who were renovating the home began to hear and see strange things. The assuming paranormal activity even got so bad that one of the workers declared that he would only work in the Erie Mansion if someone else was there with him, never wanting to be left alone after experiencing the hauntings for himself. With so many curious stories told, the owner decided that he would share his private residence with the rest of New York - creating the eerie yet fascinating Erie Mansion!
