The Adirondack Mountains, and in particular the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake, New York, are an outdoorsy person’s paradise. Blue Mountain Lake is full of trails perfect for novices and advanced hikers alike. You can even make it a multi-day trip and camp out. One thing is for sure, though: You are going to get hungry. That’s where Chef Darrell’s Mountain Diner comes in. The Blue Mountain Lake establishment is housed in a refurbished diner and serves up contemporary comfort food perfect for the warming your belly after a long day after the trails. It’s considered the best dining in Blue Mountain Lake, New York, and we definitely concur!
The dining area of Chef Darrell's Mountain Diner was constructed by the Silk City Diner Company out of Paterson, New Jersey, all the way back in 1946. Before landing in the Adirondacks, the diner had spent time in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio. It ended up in Blue Mountain in 2017, and, following an overhauling of both the inside and the outside of the diner, it opened up in June 2021.
The restaurant is helmed by the chef Darrell Spencer, who has trained at the Culinary Institute of America. The chef purchased the restaurant from the previous owners Tom Warrington and Betsy Folwell in 2022.
The diner seats 42, and features a stainless steel and cream enamel exterior. If it doesn't bring you back to the glory days of diners in America, nothing will!
Chef Darrell specializes in contemporary versions of diner classics. So that means pot roast, meatloaf, fried chicken and glazed salmon. And, of course, amazing deserts!
If you happen to find yourself in the Adirondacks, make time for a trip to Chef Darrell’s Mountain diner, the best dining in Blue Mountain Lake, New York. While you are in the area, you might want to consider a getaway to this amazing A-Frame cabin for the weekend. Never been rail biking? Also in the Adirondacks is Revolution Rail Co., a great way to get exercise and see some sights at the same time.
