Bigger doesn’t always mean better, but when it comes to shopping malls, it’s helpful to have some size. Larger square footage means a bigger variety of stores, and of course, extra amenities. One shopping mall in New York stands out above the rest with regards to size. The massive Destiny USA in Syracuse is the biggest mall in the Empire State and the eighth-largest mall in the United States. It’s so large it’s even been assigned its own ZIP code! This place is a one-stop-shop for clothing, home goods, food, and even entertainment. Even the pickiest of shoppers can find something in Destiny USA’s 225+ stores. Whether you’re looking to shop for holiday gifts or just feel like getting out of the house, Destiny USA is the perfect place to spend a day.
The land that is now Destiny USA was once a scrap yard, believe it or not! Construction on the mall started in 1987 and the doors opened in 1990.
The carousel inside the mall was made in 1908 by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, a world-renowned amusement ride manufacturer.

The name was officially changed to Destiny USA in 2012, though you'll still hear some locals refer to the place as "Carousel Center." Old habits die hard!
Like most shopping malls in New York, Destiny USA is home to a variety of restaurants, ranging from quick grab-and-go spots to more formal dine in locations. The mall houses more than 30 restaurants.
And, as you'd expect, you can of course pick up clothing and other typical mall items here. National chains and local businesses abound. They've even got outlets where you can get high-end products at cheaper prices than usual.
