Looking for a beautiful hike that is a little off the beaten path? Check out Codfish Point Trail, located in Catskill Park in New York. It’s full of natural splendor; it provides a great workout while still being accessible to most skill levels. It might just be a candidate for the best trail in the Catskills. To learn more, keep reading below.
Codfish Point Trail is a 3.8 mile out-and-back rail close to Elk Park, New York. It’s considered by most to be a somewhat challenging trail, and takes around two hours to fully navigate. There are even waterfalls at the entry point of the trail for hikers to enjoy.
The trail is nicely maintained, but hikers should still bring hiking boots, as there are a fair amount of stones and tree roots. In the summer, the parking lot that hikers use to enter the trailhead can get busy, so plan ahead.
Though the trail is beloved by winter sports enthusiasts—snowshoeing is especially popular—it is still great for hiking. It can get busy, but if visitors pick the right time of the day, they will likely be able to enjoy a very peaceful hike. We recommend checking it out in the morning.
There’s still a lot of summer left, so get out there and enjoy it. Codfish Point Trail is an easygoing route worth making the trip. While you are in the Catskills, why not check out Big Kev’s BBQ, which is probably the best BBQ in the area. And if you need a place to stay after your hike, we recommend The Woodbine Inn, which is less than 10 miles away.
