This Norman-style castle and luxury hotel was built in two stages over many years, beginning in 1897. It was completed in 1910. It was originally built by General Howard Carroll as a home for himself and his family.
General Carroll died in 1916, but his family continued to live in the castle until 1940.
After several subsequent owners, the castle first served as a hotel in 1996. Today, it's a 31-room, award-winning hotel that also has event and meeting space, a restaurant, a spa, a fitness center, and a seasonal pool, all on a spectacular piece of property atop a hill.
In 1981, it made its way onto the Tarrytown Town Landmark List; no changes can be made to the exterior.

The grounds that surround the castle are beautiful at any time of year. Flowering trees bloom in the spring and snow covers the hills and trees in the winter. Guests can use landscaped jogging paths during their stay.
Equus, the onsite restaurant, is award-winning also. It has received Four Diamonds from AAA, a Four-Star Award from Forbes, and an "excellent" rating from the New York Times.
