Depending on how long you’ve had the pleasure of calling the Empire State your home, you’ve most likely heard about all of the magic that lies inside of Saratoga Spa State Park. A breathtaking area of Upstate New York, inside the park you can find our state’s only geyser as well as a handful of natural springs that you can drink from. If you were wondering where the rest of the city’s springs are hiding, it’s time you go for a stroll through Congress Park right in the heart of town.
Taking up nearly 20-acres in Saratoga Springs, it's time to explore all that Congress Park has to offer.
At first glance, the park may seem small but once you get to walking around you'll see that every inch of this outdoor space is magical.
With paved walkways making it easy for everyone to access, Congress Park comes to life during New York's warmest months when all our flowers are in bloom and things turn nice and green.
The park itself has several small bodies of water and ponds, with lots of greenery and trees. There are great picnic spots and shaded areas that you'll want to hang out under all day long.
Over near the park's Italian Gardens, you'll see a small creek that you can walk along...
...that's also a popular place to get an up-close look at the many ducks that fill the park during the summer.
On one end of the park, you'll find another small body that's designated as a World War Memorial that was built back in 1932.
Taking you out onto the water and giving you a wonderful view of the park, the memorial continues to honor the Veterans that served - with their names and service dates even ingrained into the bricks.
The stars of Saratoga though for many of us are the city's springs, with several showcased here in the Congress Park.
You'll find people from all over stopping by the springs in the park, whether it's to grab a quick sip of this delicious water or to fill up entire jugs to take back home with them.
Columbian Spring, Congress Spring, and Deer Park Spring all have their own taste like each spring inside the city - giving you the option to choose which one you'll bottle up your water at.
When people aren't bottling up the water and drinking from the springs, you can also expect to find many of them photographing everything in the park from the historic statues to the beautiful flowers.
At one entrance of the park though, you'll find a family-favorite attraction that draws in people of all ages - The Congress Park Carousel.
Making you feel like you're back in the good old days, at a machine in front of the ride you'll exchange a one dollar bill for a golden token which you'll need to go on the carousel.
With 28 restored horses for you to ride, is the only Congress Park Carousel is actually the only two-row Illions carousel still in working order!
If you've never explored every corner of Congress Park, then it's time to start planning a visit to Saratoga Springs so that you can drink from natural springs and ride a historic carousel!
