With the school year slowly but surely creeping up on us, families around New York are looking to squeeze in as many exciting day trips and adventures as they possibly can before summer’s over. If you’re interested in taking a day trip that the whole family will love, then we’ve got the ultimate destination for you. Whether you’re looking to stay out of the summer heat or need the perfect solution for a rainy day, it’s time to head indoors to explore the country’s best children’s museum in Rochester.
Right around the corner from some of our favorite attractions in Rochester, The Strong National Museum of Play is a family-favorite destination in Western New York.
Filled with interactive exhibits and installations, most people spend over 3 1/2 hours exploring the museum - making it the perfect day trip to take this summer or any time of the year!
While walking around the museum you'll see some of your favorite characters like Thomas the Train, the Sesame Street stoop and friends, Mr. Potato Head, the Berenstain Bears, and so many more.
Creating all different worlds for kids to entire, you'll find rooms full of installations that kids can play on and climb up, around, and through. If your kids are anything like mine, I can guarantee they'll be asleep in the car before you even pull out of the parking lot after having a day full of fun.
The museum houses the National Toy Hall of Fame and the World Video Game Hall of Fame, where you can play arcade games and console games that you grew up playing in New York.
If you're looking to take a piece of the fun home with you, you can also shop around in the museum's huge gift shop that's filled with a variety of toys and merchandise.
When we say that there's so much to explore inside this one museum, we really mean it! The Strong Museum houses a 100-year-old historic carousel that you can ride on and even has an authentic 1950s diner that you dine in as well. To find out more about the museum, click here.
