Those of us who love hiking know it’s a ton of fun. It promises so much — from giving us the chance to embrace nature, to breathe in the fresh air, and to get far from the stress of life. Some trails also teach us a thing or two. Cathedral Rock Trail in New York, for example, gives us a brief history lesson in a fire tower and the trail’s namesake.
Bring the whole family — and maybe even a picnic basket — along on the two-mile Cathedral Rock Trail that boasts a ton of gorgeous scenery.
While the trail is rated easy for all ages and all skill levels, you will run across several areas that pose a serious danger. If you see a sign warning you to stay away from a cliff, stay away.
However, you won't climb more than 200 feet during the whole hike, making it one of those hikes even the kids will love. (You can also bring your pup along, as long as he is leashed.)
Unfortunately, the fire tower is currently closed due to the ongoing pandemic. When it reopens, you'll definitely want to visit again just for the sensational views from the top.
Remember that picnic basket? Grab a seat at the picnic table that overlooks the landscape. You've come to the perfect spot for a leisurely meal and sensational photos.
During the hike, you'll also come across placards, including a poem about Cathedral Rock and a memorial marker for a young boy who lost his life along the trail.
Cathedral Rock Trail is one of those trails that is perfect no matter the season. You'll definitely want to make the trek when the fall foliage is at its peak, too.
