Here at Only In Buffalo, we often like to talk about the best places that you can go and visit within the Queen City, but what about the city’s most unusual attractions? If you’re looking to visit someplace new around our favorite city in Western New York, then it’s time you take a look at some of the weirdest attractions that Buffalo has to offer.
1. The Old Pink
No, that's not some blizzardous witch cauldron, that's Buffalo's most historic dive bar! While the outside may be painted in green flames and snowflakes, nothing relating to either of these quirky themes can be found on the inside of the bar. If you're looking to enjoy a night out that's full of good drinks and a great time with even better people, you won't want to miss out on stopping by one of Buffalo's most unusual places. You'll find The Old Pink at 223 Allen St., Buffalo, NY 14201.
2. Brain Museum
Located with the University of Buffalo, the Brain Museum at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is one of the largest displays of its kind! Formally known as the Museum of Neuroanatomy, the majority of the brains were donated to the school - and you'll find over 80 on display. If you want to see this intriguing museum for yourself, you can arrange a guided tour by contacting Christopher Cohan at ccohan@buffalo.edu or calling 716-829-3081.
3. Shark Girl
Oh Shark Girl, how we love to hate you and hate to love you. Half shark and half girl, Buffalo's famous blue dress-wearing shark lady has been sitting stoically at Canalside for almost four years now. A creation by Casey Riordan Millard, Shark Girl was bought by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and has made her forever home along Buffalo's lovely waterfront. Have you ever taken a selfie with Shark Girl?
4. Forest Lawn Cemetery
Forest Lawn Cemetery is far from an ordinary cemetery. Not only will you find trolley tours that operate through this famous Buffalo Cemetery, but also some pretty peculiar landmarks and graves here. From strangely situated seats to famous headstones of celebrities like Rick James, Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo is quite a strange - and stunning - place.
4. Buffalo Riverworks
Breathing new life into old grain elevators, Buffalo Riverworks gives residents of the Queen City an exciting and unique way to explore a piece of the past. During the summer, you can see head-turning sights like locals rock climbing their way up the side of the old grain elevators, zip-lining from the top, and crossing sky-high rope bridges. Buffalonians also enjoy indoor rope courses, as well as numerous special events both inside and out. There's always an odd sight to be seen over here at Buffalo Rivereworks!
6. Hotel Henry
To those who are unfamiliar with Buffalo, passing by Hotel Henry will undoubtedly make them look twice. While we love to gaze at Hotel Henry's amazing architecture, we can't help but point out how unusual it is that this gorgeous hotel was once the local insane asylum!
