As Buffalonians, we’re more than used to dealing with our fair share of strange – just take a look at these unusual spots all around the city! If you were wondering what other head-turning attractions can be found out here in Western New York, then we have your next adventure planned out for you. Just an hour south of Buffalo, you’ll discover the most unique nearby town right in Chautauqua County.
Say hello to the unusual community of Lily Dale, a town unlike any other in Western New York - or the entire country.
Located in our state’s westernmost corner, Lily Dale was founded back in 1879 on the southern shores of Cassadaga Lake and is now known as the world's largest center for Spiritualism.
That's right! This quaint lakefront town is home to 50 registered Mediums and those who believe in Spiritualism - the art of communicating with those who have passed on.
Between June 21st and September 1st, Lily Dale opens its gates to outsiders for a small fee and welcomes you to come and explore all that this town has to offer.
Some who choose to come to Lily Dale specifically seek out the Mediums, making appointments in advance and visiting for special events, while others walk through the gates of this community to just see what all the buzz is about.
The Leolyn Woods sit within an old-growth forest that truly has an enchanting aura. You’ll also find a pet cemetery and even a Fairy Trail made up of miniature homes for magical creatures.
If you've never experienced what it's like to see a Medium or walk around a town dedicated to Spiritualism, be sure to plan a trip to Lily Dale before the season is over!
