Roadside attractions – simple to find and even easier to love! Right in the heart of the Buffalo, you’ll find plenty of head-turning landmarks that many of us love to visit. However, if you venture just 20 minutes outside of the heart of Downtown, you can find a roadside attraction right on Main Street in a nearby small town. Let’s take a quick trip to discover this historic gem!
Taking up quite a bit of space on East Aurora's Main Street, Vidler's 5 & 10 is the largest variety store of its kind in the entire world.
Before you enter the enormous store or even pay attention to the charming red and white outward appearance, you'll see a noticeable statue sitting up on the roof of the store!
Throughout the year you'll see the rooftop statue of Ed Vidler sporting Buffalo Bills gear, holiday lights, and perhaps even a Santa hat once the Christmas season rolls around.
Vidler welcomes people into the 5 & 10 store that's been located on Main Street since 1930. Over time, the shop has expanded and is now made up of four buildings on the street - it's 16,000 square feet of fun!
Once you walk in through the main entrance, you'll instantly be taken back in time as your greeted by a coin-operated fresh popcorn machine, guess your fortune game, and a mechanical horse named Sandy that has been in Vidler's for over 50 years!
At this family owned and operated shop, you'll find generations of friendly faces ready to help you as you shop around the more than 75,000 different items that they have.
Equipped with a timeless candy counter, you'll find enough sweets here to last a lifetime - many of which are housed inside the old fashioned glass candy jars we all know and love.
They also have plenty of fascinating items, like a wall full of sodas that come in all different brands and flavors that you'll be curious to try.
This is a place that both kids and adults will love, and you'll find an entire section of the store known as Toyland that's a little paradise full of quirky toys.
You'll also uncover garden gnomes, craft supplies, home decor, kitchenware, regional memorabilia, and just about anything that you could possibly think of or want.
Now is the perfect time to get out and do some shopping at one of the most unique and timeless roadside attractions in the Buffalo area.
They are open Tuesday through Sunday all throughout the year. You can find out more about the history of Vidler's and what's waiting for you in store on their website
