It’s no big secret that Buffalo is in the midst of a “renaissance.” Our restaurant scene is growing by the day, the city is hustling and bustling with more tourist attractions, and we’re even starting to see improvements in our public transportation. While we like to celebrate these small victories, it’s also nice to reflect on the city’s past. When you need to get back to the heart of things in the 716, head to any one of these nine incredible places in Buffalo that never ever change.
The Darwin Martin House was built between 1903 and 1905. While the complex itself has seen plenty of construction, this Frank Lloyd Wright creation is one of the places in Buffalo that never changes. Address: 125 Jewett Parkway
Hotel Lafayette is home to some of our favorite places to shop, eat, and sip a hot cup of coffee, but while the entities inside this historic building might change, the exterior never does. The Hotel Lafayette recently underwent millions of dollars in renovations to return the facade to its original luster.
One of our favorite buildings in Buffalo, the Guaranty Building, has been showing off its astonishing architecture since day one. The next time you're downtown, be sure to look up at the terra cotta design on this Buffalo skyscraper.
Buffalo City Hall is one of the largest municipal buildings in the United States. It's also one of the buildings in Buffalo that remains largely unchanged. And we're glad it doesn't! Both the interior and exterior of this beautiful building are worth seeing. Head up to the observation deck for some of the best views of the city!
The weather forecast in the 716 is constantly confusing us, but the contrast of the Electric Tower's bright white exterior and the Buffalo sky never does. Even on the grayest days, the Electric tower stands out above the crowd.
The Gold Dome Building has changed names and ownership quite a few times, but the shimmering rooftop and intricate details of this building never, ever change. The Gold Dome building is one of the most recognizable structures upon entering the downtown area.
The Buffalo Lighthouse was established in 1833 and it has maintained its appearance (for the most part) ever since. While the tower was deactivated in 1914, this lighthouse is one of the things in Buffalo that never changes. Look for the lighthouse the next time you're traveling in the waters of Lake Erie! It's a beautiful sight to see - especially against a setting sun.
8. Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site
Buffalo is a city full of rich history. This unique Buffalo attraction is no exception. The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site is a great spot to soak up some of the events that have occurred within our city limits.
One of the best and most interesting parts of the Buffalo waterfront lies at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. The naval ships available to tour are mesmerizing. And the best part? The history that is held on board the ships never fades away!
