But our city is actually one of the best planned cities in the country, and our access to water has a whole lot to do with it. 1. Buffalo Main Lighthouse (Coast Guard Station South Road, Buffalo)
The Buffalo Main Lighthouse is the most notable of all the lighthouses near Buffalo. You can see this beacon of light shining on Lake Erie by both land and water. And if you want to get really up close and personal, you can even take a tour!
2. Historic Dunkirk Lighthouse (1 Point Drive N., Dunkirk)
If a whole lot of history (and even a haunting or two) sounds like fun, head down to the historic Dunkirk Lighthouse. This lighthouse near Buffalo is located roughly an hour from the city. And it's worth every mile!

3. Thirty Mile Lighthouse (9691 Lower Lake Road, Barker)
Further north from the City of Buffalo lies the Thirty Mile Lighthouse. This beautiful building is located within Golden Hill State Park in Barker, NY. Take a tour to the top to see the sights of Lake Ontario from a fresh perspective!
The Barcelona Lighthouse in Westfield was the first natural gas lighthouse in the country. You can find this lighthouse near Buffalo overlooking Barcelona Harbor on Lake Erie.
5. Old Fort Niagara Lighthouse (102 Morrow Plaza, Youngstown)
The Old Fort Niagara Lighthouse draws crowds from near and far. This lighthouse is located at Old Fort Niagara. And although it isn't the original lighthouse, the current structure, "Fort Niagara Light," is still listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Olcott Lighthouse is another rebuild. But the new lighthouse still carries with it all the history of the original. Thanks to the preservation and rebuilding efforts, this lighthouse near Buffalo is still standing and open to the public Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
