With warm days still making a consistent appearance in Buffalo, it might seem like fall is still worlds away – but don’t let this stunning season sneak up on you! From what we know right now, the Queen City’s foliage is expected to peak on October 8, 2018, which leaves us the next three weeks to enjoy Mother Nature’s vibrant beauty while it’s still here. A great excuse to head outdoors and explore outside of the cityscape, take a look at this awesome lakefront hike right in Buffalo that has a front row seat to our jaw-dropping fall colors.
A quick 15-minute drive outside of downtown Buffalo on Honorine Drive in the village of Depew, there's a gorgeous nature preserve that's perfect for viewing the fall foliage.
Covering nearly 300 acres of land, the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve a 2.8-mile loop within the park that's great for hikers of all ages and different skill levels.
And as you make your way through the colorful forest you'll find plenty of informative signage that will give you a greater insight into the scenery and history of New York.
One of the best things about the interconnecting trails here is that for a great deal of the time, you'll find yourself hiking right along the waterfront of Flattail Lake.
If you've never paid a visit to the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, it might be good to keep in mind that guided tours through the woods are available here! The preserve has its own environmental education center, where you'll find friendly faces who are happy to guide you through the woods and tell you more about the preserve and wildlife that are here.
