One of the most amazing things about the historic Erie Canal is how there are so many ways for us to enjoy the different locks after all these years. Lucky for us, living in Buffalo means that we have quite a few fascinating canal boat rides within arm’s reach. Offering rides now through October 14th, 2018, you should book a tour before fall’s over to experience this one-of-a-kind canal ride in Niagara County.
Just a half-hour north of Buffalo in Lockport, Erie Canal Cruises takes you on a tour of a special piece of the 363-mile long Erie Canal.
Erie Canal Cruises has several different vessels, ranging from smaller boats carrying 48 passengers to their largest double-deck boat that carries up to 150 passengers.
The two-hour-long adventure is narrated by a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain, and you'll pass underneath the widest bridge in the country - it's nearly 300 feet across!
Passing underneath this historic bridge isn't the only interesting thing that'll happen along the way. You'll also get to pass by the charming homes and businesses that line the main streets of Lockport!
But the thing that makes this ride one-of-a-kind is the fact that this boat tour takes you through the only set of double locks along all of the Erie Canal.
You'll love getting such a spectacular view of these locks, along with the famous Upside Down Railroad Bridge that you'll also cross under and traveling through the Tow Path.
The tours operate every day of the week and it's recommended that you book your reservations ahead of time to make sure that you get a seat on these wonderful canal cruises!
