Due to its proximity to Lake Erie, there is quite a bit of snow in Buffalo each and every year. While the city averages about 85 inches per year (which is already A LOT), there have been some winters that far surpassed those numbers. Take, for example, the Buffalo winter of 1976-77, when it saw nearly 200 (199.4) inches. That’s more than 30 inches than the next snowiest winter, which was 2000-01 with 158.1 inches. This just makes it even more ideal for a holiday light road trip in Buffalo.

There are close to 200 parks in New York State, scattered across its nearly 55,000 square miles. And many of the most beautiful ones are in and around the Buffalo area. In North Buffalo, you’ll find the 350-acre Delaware Park. Here, you can explore Hoyt Lake by canoe, check out a Shakespeare in Delaware Park stage show, wander the 1917 Rose Garden as well as take in walking trails. And while not technically in Buffalo, if you are ever in the area, Niagara Falls State Park is a must-stop. Within its 435 acres, you can take of course take in the falls, but you can also do a fair amount of hiking.
