This Buffalo Hotel Was Just Named One Of The Best In The World

It can be hard to believe, but the 145-year-old building that's now home to the Hotel Henry got its start in 1880 as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane.

It's located on the Richardson Olmsted Campus, which was created by Henry Hobson Richardson, one of "The Recognized Trinity of American Architecture."

The grounds and gardens were originally created by American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York City's Central Park.

Today, the Richardson Olmsted Campus is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

The Hotel Henry is a state-of-the-art hotel and conference center located in the cultural center of Buffalo.

The interior of the hotel is even more impressive that the outside, making TIME's choice very clear.

Inside, you'll see clean lines mixing with historic details.

There are bright and airy spaces allowing for strong natural light. This often surprises guests who are only familiar with its history as a former hospital.

The layout of the hotel and the grounds make for a sprawling area, with lots of uniquely utilized space.

At the very least, come for brunch — they've got it on both Saturday and Sunday!
