Don't let the size of this town fool you! Arcade's annual Winterfest draws a big crowd, and for good reason.
Arcade's population of just over 4,000 might not be the biggest, but their Winterfest is worthy of winning popularity contests.
No rookie mistakes here. The Winterfest has been happening for over 40 years!
Arcadians and Western New Yorkers have come out each winter to enjoy the festivities in the town. This year, the festival is celebrating its 47th year in operation! Let's run down some of the most popular attractions - First up: hockey at the Arcade Park. Beer League teams register to compete, no matter the weather conditions.
The snow sculptures are super cool – no pun intended!
The town is decorated with snow and ice sculptures leading up to Winterfest each year. Participants in the snow sculpture contest can build their masterpieces leading up to the festival, which will take place on Friday, February 9th, 2018.
Double up on gloves for snow softball!
This activity is another crowd favorite, where both experienced players and first-timers enjoy a game of pickup softball in the snow. The tournament starts bright and early at 7:30 AM!
Brave the elements for the Winterfest 5K Run/Walk.
What would a festival be without a 5K to celebrate the occasion? The Arcade Winterfest "Braving the Elements" run/walk is not for the faint of heart (or easily chilled!). Runners traverse through snow, slush, and ice (or all of the above) depending on whatever Mother Nature decides to throw their way.
The Firemen's Tug-o-War is another crowd pleaser, celebrating some of Arcade's finest with a classic game of strength.
Each year, members of the local fire department gather in teams of five to battle it out at this fun (and competitive!) event. Both the first and second place winners walk away with a cash prize at the end of the contest.
You can't play in the snow without inviting your kids to join in the fun!
The Arcade Winterfest has plenty of child-friendly activities and events. The most popular of which is the Cardboard Box Sled Race. Racers test their designs down the impressive sledding hill at the Arcade Village Park and the fun wraps up with prizes award for age levels and creative categories!
Okay, enough with the cold weather activities. Let's talk about how you can warm up at the Arcade Winterfest!
Possibly the best part about the Arcade Winterfest is the chili cook off. Arcade residents line the sidewalks of Main Street each year serving up the best chili they can create. Each recipe is judged by a panel – it's a tough job, but someone has to do it! Prizes are awarded for first and second place winners, as well as best tasting and best vendor display. But the best part of the whole thing? The chili is available to purchase for just $1 per cup!
Bundle up. Join the fun. Warm up. Come back next year!
You won't be disappointed after taking a trip to the Arcade Winterfest. We've personally experienced this festival firsthand for many years, and it's always a good time! Mark your calendars for this year's event on February 9th - 11th, 2018!
