There are many claims to fame in the United States, but only a few are brave enough to hold the spot for “world’s best.” This bar-turned-restaurant in Buffalo has become a go-to for many locals, and not only has it proclaimed to have the world’s best wings, they’re also the inventors of this famous finger-lickin’ treat. If you think you’ve had good wings in the past, get ready be blown away once you taste these world famous wings at this legendary spot in Buffalo.
Welcome to Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo! This legendary bar and restaurant is home to the world's best wings, and it's not hard to see why they hold that title.
Anchor Bar opened in 1935 and has been a classic spot for locals ever since. With a biker bar feel, this well-known spot has wacky decor that we all know and love.
Dominic Bellissimo is the son of Frank and Teressa, and he worked at the bar in 1964 before it was known as Anchor. He then asked his mother to bring his friends something to eat and she brought out what looked like chicken wings, which was known at the time as a part of the chicken that's only used to make stock.
Frank and Teressa's secret sauce can be bought by the bottle, but the recipe is still a secret to this day. People from all over have tried to replicate it, but none have come quite close.
Coming out to the legendary Anchor Bar is always a good time. Besides tasting their famous wings (and the rest of the delicious menu), there's often live music and other events. Anchor Bar is truly a gathering place in downtown Buffalo.
While many places will try to claim the fame, "world's best," we think that Anchor Bar is inarguably one of the few places that has the right to. As the inventors of the wing and the creators of a sauce that has become iconic, this is truly one of the best spots for wings in the entire world.
