A lot of people in the country know Buffalo for the weather. We all know it’s not always the frozen tundra people imagine, but there’s a lot more than we know about Buffalo the rest of the country doesn’t realize. One of the most notable things? Our food! We’ve got some of the best food of any city and we’re pretty proud of it. These iconic Buffalo foods are what makes us… us! If you haven’t had them all, you might want to consider being here a little bit longer.
If you're into food, you know the beauty of the kummelweck roll. Dip yours in au jus or cover it in horseradish. Either way, it's the thing of Buffalonian lunchtime dreams.
Let's get one thing clear: when people refer to a "New York Slice" they're definitely not talking about Buffalo-style pizza. Ours is, of course, better. If you're not sure about that, you'll need to try a few more pies.
Ted’s charcoal broiled hot dogs make some people wonder how special a hot dog can actually be. But, let us assure you - these are amazing. It's said that Ted ran a horse-drawn hot dog cart in our beloved Buffalo before starting his shop sometime in the 1920s. Thanks, Ted!
Now that we all agree that Buffalo-style pizza is the best, you can move on to pizza logs! These cheesy concoctions are dripping flavor and just feel like Western New York in one bite. Haven't had 'em? Yikes. Get out there and fix that.
Chiavetta's barbecue is smothered in a sauce that tastes like Buffalo. Haven't had it? Unpack your bags, you're not going anywhere until you've tried it.
Some people mistakenly believe this is a national chain, but it absolutely is not. No matter what, Buffalo lays claim to Mighty. Haven't had it? Better get taco-ing. We recommend the Super Mighty.
What is the sponge, exactly? Hard to say, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that if you haven't had one (or, let's be honest, several) of these you haven't had the real Buffalo experience.
This one goes without saying, but if you haven't had authentic Buffalo wings, you not only haven't lived in Buffalo long enough, have you been here at all?!
If you're a Western New York native, you've surely enjoyed Perry's Ice Cream. Whether it's at a scoop shop or from a grocery store, this is a Buffalo staple. Only eating Ben and Jerry's? You're going to need to be a little more Buffalo.
If you haven't dipped just about everything into a tub of Bison Dip, you may need to reconsider what your life is all about.
How many of these Buffalo foods do you absolutely love? Are there others quintessentially Buffalo flavors that you would add to this list? Let us know in the comments below!
