1. Heart Island
In Alexandria Bay, the romantic Heart Island waits for you. Home to the famous Boldt Castle, visitors come to the island to see the historic and beautiful architecture and remarkable landscapes surrounding the castle.
2. Rock Island
Interested in taking a scenic boat ride where you'll get to see one of New York's many historic lighthouses? Us too! Located in Clayton, Rock Island is a popular place to stop when touring the beautiful Thousand Islands. After climbing to the top of the Rock Island Lighthouse you'll find an unforgettable view right before your eyes, making you want to plan your next trip ASAP!
3. Governor's Island
While many of our residents have zero to nothing interest in visiting the Big Apple area, this island is a must see. Opening back up on May 28th, the island is filled with so much to explore. From quirky art installations to mini golf courses and historic sites, there's something for everyone to enjoy here.
4. Goat Island
Thanks to a helpful reviewer on Yelp, you can see labeled here exactly where Goat Island is located! Falling on New York territory, this Island gives you an interesting and unforgettable view of the famous falls. While some choose to walk over from the Observation Tower, you can actually drive to the island as well.
5. Iona Island
Located inside Bear Mountain State Park, this island has been designated a national natural landmark! Made up of marshes, Iona Island can be viewed up close from the water or from the top of top of Bear Mountain if you choose to hike inside the state park!
6. Wellesley Island
One of the many treasures of the St. Lawrence River, this island features a beautiful state park that's a sight for any sore eyes. A popular spot for our residents to go camping, the island also features a large tower which gives you one of a kind views of the surrounding area.
7. Islands of Lake George
No, we couldn't pick just one! Inside Lake George's waters you'll find nearly two hundred islands ready to take your breath away. While many of these islands are only big enough to hold a few trees and not much more, roughly 50 islands are available for camping! If you're looking to go camping in the Lake George area, we highly suggest you check out trying to camp out on one of the many islands.
8. Dark Island
Open to the public, you can visit Dark Island's biggest attraction, Singer Castle. Over a hundred years old, this castle wasn't always open to visitors and is absolutely worth checking out. About as close to the Canadian border as one could try to be, the island will open for tours on May 21st.
9. Fire Island
Right off the southern shores of Long Island you'll find this gorgeous island that has so much to offer. Spanning more than 30 miles, you'll often find yourself up close and personal with New York's wildlife when visiting here! Unafraid deer will welcome you right as you're on the beach and can be seen all over the island. A must see when visiting the island? The breathtaking Sunken Forest.

Looking for a scenic spot to go running and walk along charming trails? Located in Waterford, this entire island is one of New York's state parks. Another island on our list where you're almost guaranteed to see a deer every time you visit, the park gives you relaxing views of the river. And who knows, perhaps you'll find an the abandoned ruins of an old car lying along one of the many trails here!
11. Ellis Island
Whether you were dragged here on a school field trip or you were genuinely interested in learning about the rich history that lies here, most of New York's residents can say they've at least visited here once. Aren't apart of this group? Well now's your time to check it out then! Several tours are offered, one of the most interesting being the hard hat tours that take you through the old hospital complex.
