You've Never Seen New Mexico Waterfall Views Like These Captured From Above
Waterfalls are always captivating, but check out these insanely beautiful ariel images of the Bluff Springs waterfall. Along with the waterfall, the video explores the small creek that feeds the fall and the Rio Penasco below.
Bluff Springs is a 40-foot-high falls in the Lincoln National Forest, near Cloudcroft. If you want to visit this waterfall yourself, you can drive right to the trailhead. From the parking area, it’s an easy hike to the falls. Just cross the footbridge and follow the trail. Be sure to look for the stairs that lead to the mesa above the falls too. As well as views from above, you can follow the stream (for about a third of a mile) and find the small spring that is its source.
An old railroad grade makes hiking in the area easy and enjoyable. There are several day-hikes around the waterfall, including a spur to the wildly beautiful Willie White Trail. There is a partly developed picnic area here and dispersed camping is allowed.
Driving Directions: Just south of Cloudcroft, follow the Sunspot Highway (N.M. 6563) to the Bluff Springs turn off, Upper Rio Penasco Road (Forest Road 164). The road is only paved part of the way, then turns to gravel. The parking area is about 4 miles down the road. The footbridge to the trail is viable from the parking lot.
