I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Whether you believe in UFOs or not, they’ve been documented throughout the decades and maybe even the centuries. While there seems to be no hard evidence available to the public of the existence of UFOs, there are countless well-documented cases that could make a believer in all of us. Perhaps the most credible UFO sighting in New Mexico was by an on-duty police officer in Socorro in 1964.
Approximately 75 miles south of Albuquerque in the Rio Grande Valley lies Socorro. While this small city in New Mexico is known for its art, music, and outdoor scene, it's also known for something out of this world.
Lonnie Zamora worked as a police officer for the City of Socorro. While on duty on Friday, April 24, 1964, he witnessed something strange, something that was not of this world.
He was called to a remote location in the desert. After traveling down a bumpy dirt road, he saw what looked like a vehicle in distress. When he got closer, he noticed it wasn't a car but an egg-shaped ship hovering above the landscape.
Officer Zamora eventually approached the strange object and noticed it had landing gear as well as a marking that he drew when documenting his experience. Later, it comes to light that there were five other witnesses who saw the UFO.
The incident was so well documented and so believable that there is a memorial in Socorro dedicated to Lonnie Zamora and his UFO encounter. If you come to Socorro, not only should you visit the memorial but the NRAO Very Large Array.
A set of 27 massive radio antennas set in the desert, the Very Large Array was featured in the 1997 Jodie Foster movie Contact about connecting with extraterrestrial life.
Do you believe in the existence of UFOs and alien life? What do you think of the Socorro Incident? Seems like a credible UFO sighting in New Mexico to me!
