New Mexico has a way of producing amazing restaurants and eschewing the monotony of chains. One particular tiny town (a village, actually) has several eateries that remain unmatched in terms of flavor, service, and atmosphere. In fact, the restaurants in the village are so good that almost all of them made our list.
In no particular order, here are our restaurant picks from the Village of Corrales.
People come to Las Ristras for New Mexican comfort food and steaks. Popular menu items include their green chile meatloaf, chile-rubbed ribs, and New Mexican standards. They also have a healthy steakhouse menu featuring New Mexico, grass-fed steaks, including their "Bad Boy," a 16-18 ounce, bone-in rib eye. For specials, they serve a three-course prime rib dinner on Thursdays and homemade tacos on Tuesdays. The fresh, chef-inspired menu changes seasonally. They open at 7 am for breakfast too. They are located at 4940 Corrales Road, Suite 400.
There are so many great pizzas at Village Pizza. Luckily, you don't need to pick just one. Hit the lunch buffet and try them all – and go back for seconds. The owners make their own sausage, dough, sauce, and green chile chicken soup. And don't forget to save room for the addicting, buttery cinnamon bread sticks. Find Village Pizza at 4266 Corrales Road.
Let's talk breakfast! While Hannah and Nate's Market Cafe is open for lunch (with salads, extraordinary sandwiches, and New Mexican favorites), start your day here with a fluffy omelet (choose from eight!), Eggs Benedict de Nuevo Mexico (with carne adovada), sourdough French toast, or any of their other fresh takes on local favorites. Hannah and Nate's is located at 4512 Corrales Road.
Perea's is located in a building that has been around since the 1800s, arguably, one of the oldest buildings in the village. They serve straight-forward, home-cooked New Mexican food and burgers. Highlights include their carne adovada, Frito pies (try it with the carne adovada), and the burgers. They only serve food at lunch (until 2 pm), but they are open in the evening for drinks at the bar. Important note – bring cash. Look for Perea's at 4590 Corrales Road.
Indigo Crow puts out some upscale food and has a nice wine list to boot. Still, the vibe here is friendly, with summer patio dining and a cozy fire inside when it's cold. This is a popular Sunday brunch place, with the requisite omelets, French toast, and breakfast burritos. Brunch also includes items from their all-week lunch menu, like sandwiches, burgers, and salads. For dinner, choose from New York Strip, lamb, and seafood choices like lobster ravioli and Chilean Sea Bass. They have a Happy Hour menu too (from 3 to 5 pm). Pro tip – if they have their key lime pie, you must have some. Indigo Crow is at 4515 Corrales Road.
Pretty incredible that all of these culinary masterpieces can be found in the same small town, right? Did you notice that they are all on the same road too? What other tiny towns have an abundance of good restaurants? Let us know your favorites!
