I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
How strong are your roots in New Mexico?Whether you’ve lived here for a while or grew up here, you know that the Land of Enchantment is a special place. With its wide open spaces, endless natural wonders, and excellent regional cuisine, this state is nothing short of alluring. If you want to show off your pride in this state, Wear Your Roots has apparel and accessories to do just that. And for those who want to see how deep your roots in New Mexico are, here are eight signs that the Land of Enchantment is home:
One of the most common sights in New Mexico is seeing a colorful hot air balloon floating overhead. The state is home to the largest hot air balloon festival in the world. The Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta draws tens of thousands of people from around to the state each year.
2. You put out farolitos/luminarias on Christmas Eve.
Lighting the streets and houses with paper bags filled with sand and lit tea-light candles is a tradition in New Mexico on Christmas Eve. While known as farolitos in Santa Fe and other parts of the state, some people refer to them as luminarias.
Known as ristras, these groups of chiles are hung up outside homes and buildings as decoration, to bring good luck, or to be saved later for cooking. You can see these all over the state.
7. You know how you like your food smothered -- green, red, or Christmas.
