I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Fall is finally upon us and what an exciting time of year it is! Time to get outdoors, hit the trails, take a road trip to see fall foliage, and explore some of the many ridiculously charming small towns around the state. Fall is a special time of year and one small town in New Mexico that celebrates fall well is Ruidoso.
Ruidoso is a village set in the mountains of southeastern New Mexico. Between the annual AspenFest, concerts in the park, an Oktoberfest, a Halloween celebration, and more, this town truly comes alive in the fall.
Not only is there a selection of events and activities happening this season but plenty of nature to explore around town.
One of the most scenic activities around town is to take a hike along the Grindstone Canyon Loop for some colorful fall foliage, as well as lake and mountain, views! This moderate 6.7-mile hike within the Lincoln National Forest is not to be missed.

You can also spend some time outside on the patio around the fire pit at Tall Pines Beer and Wine Garden. Wouldn't it be wonderful to cozy up in front of a fire while sipping on a pint of craft beer?
Not only will there be candy and costume contests at this family-friendly event but pumpkin carving, a coffin race (yes, you read that correctly), and more. It's the most spooktacular time of the year here in Ruidoso!
If you love sweets as much as I do, indulge in a fall treat like a pumpkin pie shake or a caramel apple from Sabor, a local dessert shop. What's your favorite fall dessert?
Whether you come to Ruidoso for a day or a weekend getaway this fall, there are so many events and activities around town. What a wonderful small town in New Mexico to celebrate the season!
