I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Have you ever dreamed of taking a safari but have yet to make your way to the Sahara Desert in Africa? While you may not see big game animals out here in the desert of New Mexico, you can still have a similar overnight experience as far as accommodations are concerned. If you want a safari-style experience how about booking a safari tent for glamping in New Mexico?
Located in Lamy, New Mexico, is KitFox. Touting itself as a "boutique nature lodge," KitFox has 160 private acres within the scenic Galisteo Basin Preserve.
KitFox offers 11 safari tents on its property. Here you can experience all the amenities of a luxury boutique hotel. The only difference is, you'll experience more privacy and be able to stargaze under dark skies.
Each tent offers a comfortable bed and bedding along with a clothing rack, LED lamps, a fan, and a water dispenser. Outside your door is your very own private deck.
While you won't have your own private bathroom here, the shared bathroom is quite nice. Inside the outhouse tent are six stalls, two hot showers, and six sinks. When the weather is warm, you can use one of the outdoor showers.
Other shared spaces at KitFox include a clubhouse, a canopy area, fire pits with firewood provided, and three miles of hiking trails on-site. There's even a large telescope you can borrow for stargazing at night.
While you won't see the Big Five game animals here, you'll still see your fair share of wildlife out here. Among what you may be able to spot are numerous birds, coyotes, and more. So, would you like a safari-style experience right here in New Mexico? I sure would!
