As you travel around the Land of Enchantment, you’ll come across numerous historic buildings, landmarks, and structures. One building that has been around for more than a century is Bode’s General Store in Abiquiu. As you walk into this store in New Mexico, you will not only feel like you’ve stepped back in time, but you will also find all sorts of unique, random, and fascinating items from food and liquor to gifts, books, and more.
Bode’s General Store was first established by the Grant brothers in 1890. It was known as Grants Mercantile and was a general store, post office, and even a jail.
In the early 1900s, the Grant brothers sold the store to ranchers in the area. In 1919, the building was sold once more to a man named Martin Bode. Since then, Bode's General Store has evolved into the incredible place that it is today.
