Trying to figure out how to make your next meal out a memorable one? We have a list of seven themed restaurants located right here in New Mexico that have the perfect combination of whimsy and tasty food. Let’s take a look.
1. 66 Diner, Albuquerque
Let’s start this list with taking a look at one Route 66 diner that keeps the mid-century aesthetic alive. Grab a seat at the counter, order a burger and shake, and enjoy the Route 66 and ‘50s memorabilia scattered across the diner. Address: 1405 Central Avenue NE, Albuquerque
2. Cowboy Cafe, Roswell
When people think Roswell, cowboys aren’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. However, you’ll find the cowboy theme to be a nice change from the many alien-inspired places around town. The décor here is clean yet rustic, the burgers are branded, and you’ll enjoy trying to determine if any of the customers are former cowpoke. Address: 1120 East 2nd Street, Roswell
3. Flying J Ranch, Alto
How does dinner cooked chuckwagon-style and a Western musical revue sound for a night out? You’ll get to enjoy those plus a gunfight show, a fiddler show, and more. Address: 1028 Highway 48, Alto
4. McDonald’s, Roswell
When you travel to Roswell, the space/alien theme is exactly what you would expect to encounter in a restaurant. This McDonald’s stays true to that theme with space and alien-related decorations found throughout the restaurant. Also, did you notice the restaurant itself looks something like a flying saucer? Address: 720 North Main Street, Roswell
5. Sharky’s Fish & Shrimp, Albuquerque
New Mexico unfortunately doesn’t have a coastal line but you can pretend to be at a beach when you dine at this little seafood restaurant. Enjoy some fish tacos, a cold brew, and a beach house atmosphere when you stop by this restaurant.

Address: 5420 Central Avenue SW, Albuquerque
6. Sparky’s Burgers & BBQ, Hatch
This restaurant is pretty eclectic and it can be difficult to pin down one theme going on here but if there’s any we would choose, it would have to be the green chile. Located in the green chile capital of the world, Sparky’s is known for serving a menu that features green chile in all the ways you could imagine to eat it: topped on burgers, mixed with tacos, or added to lemonade or a shake. No, really! You’ll have to try it out for yourself. Address: 115 North Franklin Street, Hatch
7. St. James Tearoom, Albuquerque
If sitting down for a cuppa with your best mates sounds like an ideal way to spend an afternoon, then you’ll want to check out this tearoom in Albuquerque. Each tea service is served around a theme that tends to harken back to the United Kingdom. Previous themes included Harry Potter, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Pride and Prejudice, with food and tea selections created specially for each theme. Address: 320 Osuna Road NE, Albuquerque
